How to Reach

By train

Woerden has an "intercity" train station, direct trains run from and to The Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Amsterdam, Gouda and Leiden. Trains are run by the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS, "Dutch Railways"). From the international airport Schiphol near Amsterdam, Woerden can be reached by train, by changing in either Leiden, Utrecht or Duivendrecht. The train station is located very close to the city centre.

By bus

Woerden's main bus station is located next to the train station. Regional buses run from Utrecht, Bodegraven, Nieuwkoop, Mijdrecht and Breukelen and are operated by Connexxion.

By car

Woerden is located just to the north of the highway A12, exit 14. The A12 runs between The Hague and the German border, near Arnhem. From the north, Woerden can be reached by exiting highway A2 near Breukelen, then continuing on provincial roads N401 and N212 via Kockengen and Kamerik. From the south (Belgium), take the A27 or A2 motorways to Utrecht, then change to the A12 motorway westwards and take exit 14. Woerden's main regional roads are the N458 from Bodegraven, the N405 from Kamerik, the N212 from highway A2 and Wilnis/Mijdrecht/Vinkeveen, the N198 from Harmelen/Leidsche Rijn and the N204 from Linschoten/Montfoort.

By boat

The Old Rhine river flows through Woerden, there are small harbours in the centre of the city and in the northwest of the city on the Grecht canal, which leads to the Nieuwkoopse Plassen.

Castle of Woerden

The Castle of Woerden between 1407 and 1415 as a fortress built by the Duke of Bavaria VI in January , Mr. van Woerden , Prince-Bishop of Liege , Duke of Bavaria-Straubing and Duke 'by pledging "of Luxembourg .
The castle is square in shape, has a drawbridge and three round and one rectangular tower. The moat has long been muted, but the castle is now largely surrounded by water on a peninsula in the canal.The castle is built next to the much later St. Bonaventure Church .

St. Bonaventure Church

The St. Bonaventure Church is a church in the Dutch place Woerden that is dedicated to Saint Bonaventure.The church is next to the Castle of Woerden , and is classified as national monument.The church was built in 1892 by architect Nicholas Miller Sr. and is considered one of his major works. It is a basilica in neo-Gothic style, based on the early French Gothic . The church tower is 77.2 meters high and is thus on the 32nd of the list of tallest church towers in the Netherlands . The church is also an organ built by Jos. Vermeulen in 1921 was put into use.

Lutheran Church

The Lutheran Church in Woerden , a clandestine church of the oldest Lutheran congregation in the Netherlands. The first pastor of this church was John Pistorius, known as Jan de Bakker . At that time there was talk of a house church, which in 1644 was demolished in 1646 as a hidden church used to be taken.

St Peter

St Peter is a Dutch Reformed Church in Woerden . The church was built in late Gothic style with a nave pseudo basilica. Arsenal

The Arsenal is a monument to the Groenendaal 26 in the heart of Woerden . Previously it was used as a military warehouse of the field army, but since 1970, when the building of its military function is removed, the first time stood empty, and it has since 1979 been used as a catering location and is used for events .

Urban Huys

The former City Hall of Woerden is a monument located on the Square 6, in 2010 as a town museum is in use. The Vroedschapszaal to 1889 was used by the city council to meet, and for justice.

The Greyhound

The Greyhound is the name of the round stone mill in 1755 in Woerden built. The mill is a mill mounds, originally a fortress belonging to the ramparts of Woerden.
The height of the argument is 9.3 meters. The Molenberg has height 5.7 meters. The exterior of the mill is black. The mill has a flight of 25.2 meters.In building the mill, the Greyhound is the older mill, which stood in the same place, by order of Wellen January Kellink and Katrina demolished. The Greyhound was in 1877 with a steam engine and in 1901 of a gas engine . The mill in 1984 restored as flourmill still used. Gas engine can still used although mill typically by wind driven.The interior of the mill is largely in original condition. The last miller was living temporarily in October 2011 in the house below the mill.
