Situated on Highway 1 at the Southern End of lake Taupo, Turangi can be accessed by private car or bus.

Kaimanawa Forest Park

Dominated by the Kaimanawa mountain ranges, the Kaimanawa Forest Park encompasses a vast (77,348 hectares) largely unmodified expanse of native forest, shrublands and tussock grasslands. It was gazetted in 1969 and is managed to protect and conserve soil and water, native vegetation, wildlife and scenic values.

Tongariro National Trout Centre

Nestled in a peaceful bush setting, the Tongariro National Trout Centre provides a peek into the world of trout at Taupo.  

You can wander through the hatchery facility, look through an underwater trout viewing chamber or take a stroll along the Tongariro River.  The River Walk Visitor Centre is open to the public, full of interesting displays about the Taupo trout fishery.
