How to Reach

By Air

Madurai is the nearest airport which is around 151 km away form Tirunelveli. Flights from all parts of the country frequent Madurai. It takes around 4 hrs by road to reach here.

By Rail

Tirunelveli has its own rail head which is just few kilometers away from the city heart. It is considered to be an important junction of Tamil Nadu and trains from all over the country that pass through Tirunelveli have a halt here.

By Road

Tirunelveli has a good network of roads into the city and inside it as well. State transport buses ply in and out of the city to all the major adjoining cities. Regular luxury coaches are also available but for few operators, you have to book the ticket in advance.

Kanthimathi Nellaiyappar Temple

Located just two km away from the railway station, these magnificent twin temples are located right in the heart of the city. The temples, dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvaty are one of the oldest temples in the south and Tirunelveli, earlier called as Pandyanagaram, is said to have evolved around these temples. You can witness the might, grandeur and the architectural brilliance of the temples from a far distance as well and when you enter the premises, you are greeted by a soothing flower garden, which if you go through carefully, contains beautiful and very rare species of flowers. As you get lost in the splendid sculptures that you will find almost at every corner, don't forget to take a look at the 100 pillared hall called the Vasantha Mandapam.

Kunthakulam Bird Sanctury

It is situated 33 kilometers south of Thirunelveli. Kunthakulam is actually a small and natural scenic village. This village is covered with natural forest and ponds. During winter every year more than 10 thousand birds from various countries like Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Australia migrate here.

Kalakadu Wildlife Sanctuary




This sanctuary is very popular with botanists and ornithologists as it has a great variety of fauna and bird life. Among the animals that roam here are tiger, panther, jackal and wild dogs while reptile population includes cobra, python and several other snakes.

Papanasam

Papanasam is located 60 kilometers from Tirunelveli. The famous Shiva temple is located at the bottom of Western Ghats that is very near to the origin of the River Tambraparani. The place is also famous for the Chitrai Vishu festival that is celebrated in the month of April when lacks of people congregate here.

Kutrallam

Kutrallam, which is popularly called the "Spa of the south", is situated at an elevation of about 170 m high, on the Western Ghats. This is not only a tourist spot but also a health resort. The waterfall has medicinal properties to cure physical ailments.
