How to Reach

By Air

Targovishte Airport (IATA code: TGV, ICAO code: LBTG), also known Buhovtsi Airfield, is located near the village of Buhovtsi, 13 km from the city of Targovishte.Its unique location gives a chance for service of an area covering three regions including Targovishte, Shumen and Razgrad Provinces.It is currently inoperational because of the lack of financial resources.

By Train

The central train station is located within 17 km from city centre there is bus and taxi connection to airport, bus stations and resorts.Daily services are avalible from Sofia, Plovdiv and Rousse.

By Bus

There are two bus stations in Varna, one serving the local area and one for longer connections to Sofia, Veliko Tarnovo, Burgas, Plovdiv, Istanbul, Greece, Romania, Central and Western Europe.They aren't that easy to find, so take a taxi.As you approach them from the city centre, the station to the left is the local one, to the right is the long distance one.

Dormition of the Theotokos Church

is an Eastern Orthodox church building in Targovishte.It is one of the finest examples of the middle and late Bulgarian National Revival church architecture.The building is situated in the Varosha Quarter - the old town in Targovishte.The church was built in the period 1847–1851 by Usta Dimitar from the Tryavna School.Initially the bell tower was a wooden structure next to the building. The three-naved church is built from stone on 510 sq.m.In 1860, the interior decoration, including the chancel-screen, was made, again by artists from the Tryavna School.In the very beginning of the 20th century the present elegant bell tower was added by Gencho Novakov, on a design by the Italian Paul Forlani.


St. John of Rila Church

is an Eastern Orthodox church building in Targovishte.It is named after the Bulgarian Saint John of Rila (876 – c. 946) who was the first Bulgarian hermit.The construction of the church started in 1912 but soon after that it was stopped because of the Balkan War.Finally it was completed in 1936.In 1961 unique wood-carved chancel-screen was made by professor Petar Kushlev.During the Seventies it was completely repaired and reconstructed with the donation from His Eminence Andrey, Metropolitan of New York who was the diocesan prelate of the Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Diocese of the USA, Canada and Australia.Once the schoolboy in the town of Targovishte he was buried in the church - narthex after his death in 1972.The building is situated in the north part of the town-center near the central market-place.

Targovishte Drama Theatre

is a state theater in the town of Targovishte.Has its own hall with 500 seats.He founded his own production and accepts visiting troupes.Annual production is 3-4 and plays about 120 performances.He mixed finance - Ministry of Culture, Municipality and own revenue.Director of the theater is Petar Petrov.Theatre was founded in 1969 year.Supports two theater festival: International Festival of performances for children "Magic Curtain", which is held annually during the first week of May and "Days of the big theater in the small town" in June.

Targovishte Puppet Theatre

created by a group of enthusiasts in January 1961 as an amateur at the center "Progress".By Order No. 49 / 02.13.1975, from 01.10.1975, the State was formed as a puppet theater. The first premiere is on 15.02.1961 - play "Magic rubber".For 47 years are carried out and played over 160 performances to more than 2.3 million viewers in the town of Targovishte and over 100 villages in the country and abroad.The repertoire of the theater attended by works of classic and contemporary authors, from the Bulgarian and world puppet drama, as well as national folklore.Widely genre diversity, the range of expressions and used vehicles, techniques for keeping the dolls: from pure puppetry behind the screen, with improvised puppet pantomime dolls, musical, live performances and dolls pop-variety show, such a purely dramatic.Titles interpret current and modern scenography solutions are varied and forceful, which determines the peculiar style of dynamic performances.

Hadzhiangelov museum

is a Bulgarian architectural monument of XIX century.Located in the town of Targovishte, Quarter of Varosha, at "Rakovski" No. 14.Built in 1863 , the by Tryavna masters, the building is symmetrical model Revival house with a wood carved decorations, artwork painted fillet and modern for its time architectural details - Alafranga , brick oven , and more.It lived Bulgarian trader Haji Haji Algete Drumev, it can be considered tools used in wine, pottery, agriculture and others.

Nikola Simov Monument

In Varos district of Targovishte is a monument near the History Museum (which holds his dagger) and a museum exhibition about his life and struggle for the liberation of the local population.On behalf of Targovishte are baptized Tourist Association " Nikola Simov "tourist home in the city and area in Preslav Mountain (northeast of Mount Youtube ).In Varna and Targovishte has streets with his name.In Vratsa Street "Nikola Simov" Street continues as "Pop Katrafilov Sava."In 1966 the Republic of Bulgaria issued a postage stamp on the occasion of his death in 90 in Drawing No. 120000.Targovishte library has an electronic bibliography "Nikola Simov Kuru - bearer of Botev" of books, articles, parts of collections, scanned historical paintings, monuments and archives.
