How to Reach

How To Reach Peermade?

You can reach Kerala at the Nedumbasherry airport which is the nearest airport to Peermade (160 Kms). Then from there you can reach Peermade by a taxi or a local bus via Kottayam(about 80 Km), Mundakayam(About 60 Km), Peermade (20 Km). The roads to the hill rises from the planes of Malanad (Meaning Land of hills). Mundakayam is the town along the foothills of the High ranges at Peermade and is famous for Rubber Plantations. The plantations on either side of the road morfs from Rubber and paddy at the lowlands of Kottayam and Muvatupuzha to cardamom and tea at the highlands.

Which Are the Places On The Way To Peermade?

While traveling from Mundakayam to Peermade you can see the towns and villages down the valley. At night the lighting in the settlements of the villages make the entire hills lit as if the stars has decent ed down to the Earth.

You can come to Peermade from Munnar too which is a little more than a hundred kilometer away. Peermade is 35 kilometer away (East)from the famous Periyar Tiger Reserve at Kumily (Thekkady). It is on the way to Kumily from Kottayam. Another smooth route is from Thodupuzha which is a major town of Idukki, along Moolamattom, Pullikkanam, Vagamon ( The Best Scenic Route ).  Once you come here, You can stay at any hotels or Stay homes, one I prefer is the one at Kuttikanam, the Misty Mountain resorts Kuttikkanam. Most of the hotels have local guides who will accompany during your visits or while making a  trek.

BUTTERFLY HILLS

Annan Thampy Hills are located to the  north of Kuttikkanam. We can have a view of high long group of hills stretch from East to west. The biggest hill of this group is called the Butterfly Hill.

It is a bit hard to trek to the top of the hill and it requires a few hour. From Kuttikkanam you must move along the route to Kattapana for about 4 Kilometers to reach a junction Before a place called Memala ,via Pallikunnu. From here there is a Different route to Peermade called the glen many route to Peermade.Move along this route, You will find that you are moving along the valley of the butterfly Hills. From here you can trek to the top of the Hills.


This hill group is a long group of hill which stretches from east to west, The butterfly hills is connected with long streches of shorter hills on either side, giving a shape of Butterfly. The hill group is visible from Vagamon and Kattapana.


TREKKING AMRUTHAMEDU


It is the highest peak near Peermade.It is about a two kilometers away from Kuttikanam.It is the second highest peak in Kerala after Anamudi near Munnar.It is the mountain seen to the west from Kuttikanam.From the base it is reaches more than a kilometer height.It is that high mountain seen on the left side while coming from Kottayam to Peermade.

You have to climp about a kilometer along the steep slope to reach the top of it.On clear days, from the top for the hill you will get a birds eye view of Kuttikanam ,Meloram and the roads to Peermade. The deep valley is the place called Meloram which is about 12 Kilometers away from Mundakayam. You can have a very beautiful view of sun rise and sunset from the Hill...The sky dresses in jungle of shades of Orange,blue,white during the Evenings.If you are Lucky enough you can see the sun light like torch light‘s Volume light striking the clouds.

To the east side the hill is surrounded by the lush green Barren hills called Kokkad Hills clothed in soft green grass. The Suicide point near Kokkad can also be seen from there. The most beautiful is the never ending Horizons of mountains surrounding it.

It is a good spot for trekking.A jeep road is there from Kuttikanam to the mountain reaching almost half of its height near the Ashely Bungalow.On both sides of the road you have beautiful cypress trees.From there it is possible to climp the mountain easily.It is possible to trek to the valley and reach Maloram though it is not very easy.

Amruth in Hindu Mythology is the food of gods which renders them ever youthfulness.It is believed that a person who occasionally climb this mountain will have prolonged youthfulness. (If its true I must be a youth for ever) It is a Christian pilgrim spot too.On Good Fridays there are spacial prayers on the hill.One one side of the hill 14 crosses are planted,in remembrance of the of Jesus Christ.


THANGALPARA HILLS

This is a center of Muslim pilgrimage.There is an ancient cave though which you can walk kilometers and experience the thrill of cave life,where our forefathers once lived before the dawn of civilizations.


KURISHUMALA ASHRAM VAGAMON


This is a Christian Pilgrimage Center and a Monastery. The large prayer Hall here is used for prayer and meditation. Attached to it here are a few spectacular diary farms.


THE BARREN BAKER HILLS (ALSO CALLED TRISHANKU HILLS)

The Baker Hills is about 5 kilometers away from Peermade (3 Kilometer along a shortcut) and 1 Km away from Kuttikanam.

The rolling Barren Hill and gentle breeze makes the spot an ideal place.It is a good place to conduct short treks.The place is surrounded by Barren Hills.If you look at the west side you can see the road from Mundakayam.On clear days the roads are visible till Peruvandanam.You can also have a good view of The Peru Hills , The Palace,and the crystal stream.On clear sunny days you can see even the light house at Alapuzha and the sea.

Mostly the place is clouded with thick mist and during winter the wind is so strong.There itself you can see large flat lands covered by green grass grow like carpets. You can have a breathtaking view of the sunrise and sunset from the hills.

Near to the hills there is a stream which flows through the side of the hills.It has clear water.On some places of the stream you can see trenches and tunnels,which are having a length of a few meters.These were formed by the slow grinding action os the stones which are carried by the water through soft rocks.

How to Reach Trishanku Hills:

This is a view point very close to Kuttikkanam which is 4 Kilometers away from Peermade on Kottayam Route. You will find a narrow hill road going up from Kuttikkanam. Move for a kilometer along this road and you wil reach Trishanku Hills.


NINNUMULLIPARA WATERFALLS


t is a beautiful water fall located on the way to Peermade from Kottayam.It is about 8 Kilometers before Peermade.The stream really originates from Kuttikanam.It is about a hundred meters high.The water is clear and it scatters on hitting the rocks while flowing down.The fall is located on the side of the road,afterward the water goes to the other side of the road under the bridge and goes to the valleys.

It is the waterfall which welcomes the visitors of Peermade. Just after a 200 meters from the waterfall on the left side of the road there is a beautiful place from where you can see the curved roads below through which you have came.The Perru Hills is also visible from the Place.


THE NALUKUTHU WATERFALLS


A very beautiful short waterfalls beside NH 220 Between Kuttikkanam and Murinjapuzha, near the curve. This waterfall is just 50 meters away from the road and there is a trekking path from the rod to the waterfalls.

This stream starts from Baker hills and after this waterfall this goes steep down the hill along the valley and Joins the Manimala River.


PANCHALIMEDU VIEWPOINT


It is a view point located about 10 kilometers away from Kuttikanam. It ia an ideal place for trekking and Eco-friendly tourism.It is located at 9.32 North Longitude and 76.57 East east Latitudes and have an altitude of about 950 meters above sea level. The winds here are sometimes so strong especially during the summer. According to the Hindu legend it was one of the many hiding spots of the five Pandava Brothers and their sister Panchali.Thus the name "Panchalimedu" was assigned to the place which means Hill of Panchali.

It is a beautiful spot ,which hosts a beautiful pond called Panchalikkulam (the word means Pond of Panchali). It is possible to see an unending stretch of hills and valleys from here.The divine flame of Savirimala lit during the Savirimala pilgrim season ,the Makaravilakku can be seen from here.

How To Reach:

Panchalimedu is about 15 Kilometers away from Peermade. From Peermade move along the Kottayam Road for 4 Kilometers and yo will reach Kuttikkanam. From here make a left turn and move along the Kottayam route. After Moving for 5 Kilometers you will reach the town called Murinjapuzha. There will be a beautiful waterfalls on the way. From Murinjapuzha you can see the big valley in front of you. Make a left turn and move 7 Kilometers and you will reach Panchaimedu.
