By train

Naarden is easily reached by train: Naarden-Bussum station is 21 minutes from Amsterdam Central, and 31 minutes from Utrecht via Hilversum. The fortified town is about 20-30 minutes walk from the railway station (called Naarden-Bussum). Bus line 101, from Amstel Station in Amsterdam, stops at Koningin Wilhelmina laan, about 10 minutes walk from the old town.

The Fortress

Naarden is one of the best preserved fortified towns in Europe and especially famous for its unique star shape. The fort has six bastions, a double wall and double canals. It's good to walk on the ramparts. A cruise around the works is possible. The large, perfectly restored fortress, most parts of the 17th century, is largely free. The fortress is also home to the Dutch Fortress Museum in Port bastion Turf. Here the visitor can see a fortress during operation looked, and continue the collection of objects from 1350 to 1945 look. Great or St. Vitus Church

St. Vitus Church is a large, Gothic basilica from the 14th and 15th centuries. Late 15th century, the church pilgrimage through the acquisition of relics of St. Vitus . Absolutely Fort

Absolutely polygonal fort is a fort of Naarden built between 1873 - 1875 on the remains of an earlier fortification. The fort served to coverage of the outer dike lands north of the fortress of Naarden .The fort has a guardhouse, and bombproof barracks surrounded by a wet moat and connected with a bridge crane.The fort is part of the New Dutch Waterline .

City Gates

Naarden had the year 1673 to 1915 two gates , namely the Utrecht gate and the Amsterdam port. Of defense considerations, besides the Utrecht gate way (Captain Meyerweg) by ramparts built. The gate was preserved and is now known as the Utrecht Gate. The Amsterdam port with the water gate was demolished. In 1939 there was direction Bussum third link road through the wall built. In this way Naarden is popularly known as The Breakthrough.

Town Hall

The Town Hall dates from 1601 and is a clear and beautiful example of the Dutch Renaissance style. Very characteristic of this building is the double gable. Currently there are in the Town Hall community meetings, weddings and cultural activities. In the lobby of City Hall is a model, which at a glance a clear view of the fortress displays.

International Theosophical Centre

The International Theosophical Centre in Naarden is one of the three international centers of the Theosophical Society in the world. Besides the headquarters in Adyar are the other two centers Manor in Sydney and the International Theosophical Centre (ITC) in Naarden . Krotona in California, The Farm in Brasilia and a number of other smaller centers even though they are often larger in size.
