By train

The town has only one railway station and that's the last one on that line. Trains arrive at Matale from Kandy and Colombo only.

By bus

Matale is situated on the A9 highway which connects Kandy and Jaffna.

Muthumariamman temple

Historical version is –the residence (Mana) of Lord Haran is –Haran Mana- in due course changed to be Karamana. The Origination of Muthumari Amman temple is not easy to predict. In the history of Holy & ancient Chapters of Ananthapuri utmost importance is given to this temple. Erstwhile Eminent skilled Silpies/Viswakarmaswho were been invited by the then Maharaja of Travancore, staying at Karamana, Before they preceded for work at Anatha Padmanabha Swami Temple, Gopuram and other sculptures in the rays of Lord Sooriya (Sun) showering over the temple, they took bath at Karamana River and paid obeisance to their own deity. For their own praying, they installed their loving and protecting Deities.
