By Train

Domino Day

was an annual event and television around the world record for the largest number falling dominoes set up by a group of people.The organization and production was in hands of Endemol.The current record stands at 4,491,863 dominoes.It was established on 13 November 2009 by the builders of Domino Day, led by Robin Paul Weijers.Domino Day is the biggest TV production in the Netherlands.In 1986 Robin Paul Weijers studied at the TU Delft.During this study along came Ron Wunderink domino saw in Japan.He asked whether there is promotional for the Netherlands could be made with dominoes.Robin Paul was one of the 45 students started doing.This was a great success and since then sees it as a communication Weijers.It provides entertainment, but more can be done with them and he wanted to develop.He started a company, which incidentally is the only company in the world that is entirely concerned with domino productions.Domino Day 1998, there were 2 other domino records broken by Robin Paul Weijers.

Northern Film Festival

takes place every year in Leeuwarden in November.It is more than 30,000 visitors in four days has become one of the biggest cultural events in the northern Netherlands and the largest regional film festival in the country.The main venues of the festival are the rooms of the Filmhouse and theater from The Harmony.Since 2006 part of the festival is also held on a number Wadden: a collaboration with the festival Oerol Terschelling and Vlieland Podium.The festival is characterized by the European Inter Regional Competition, the film premieres and previews of relevant films.Besides the main program there include children's and youth programs (school performances) and there is ample attention paid to new media. Elfstedentocht

is nearly 200 km long skating on natural ice , which is organized by the Royal Society, the Frisian Eleven Cities.Leeuwarden, the capital of Friesland, is traditionally the start and finish.The Eleven Cities Tour was the first time in 1909 and is held up to once per winter. Not all winter long is the journey taken, depending on the condition of the ice.In all, the trip held fifteen times.The last trip was in 1997.In 2005 it was announced that the Frisian place Berlikum (Berltsum) also had urban characteristics, and thus would be the twelfth Frisian town. That led not, however, that the name was changed Elfstedentocht. The course makes no difference: all the skaters riding past Berlikum, the Ried and Berlikumer wide between Franeker and Bartlehiem.

Compass Photo Festival

is a photo event that today every year alternately in Groningen and Leeuwarden is held.The event is highly regarded and even among the best 5 pictures included events in the world.Each event has its own theme.The themes are always a social aspect.The Frisian edition is traditionally dominated by non- Western photography. Originally, Northern Groningen only held every two years. The intervening years gave the possibility to broaden the event, which presented itself as a candidate to Leeuwarden.The first edition took place in Leeuwarden in 2000.Northern Lights Northern Lights is organized by the Foundation.

The Harmony Theater

is the theater and concert hall in Leeuwarden and is in the top five largest theaters in the Netherlands. It has been the stage for masterpieces such as Titanic and The Sound of Music . There are also many cabaret performances by artists like Sara Kroos , Bert Visscher , De Lama's , Karin Bloemen and many others.The building has three theaters, three smaller meeting rooms and two large foyers. The largest room can accommodate up to one thousand visitors. The building also provides space for an indoor movie house , which now houses the Centre for Film in Friesland is located. Annually, more than 650 activities for a total of 250,000 visitors.The Harmony is a member of the Association of Theatre and Concert Managements (VSCD).The mission of the theater is that it offers a program of theater and music and also to accommodate others who need room space. It is an exciting theater, where amazing things happen.

Fries Museum

is a museum in Leeuwarden.The museum was on 13 April 1881 opened by the Provincial Association for the Practice of Friesland Frisian Historical, Antiquities and Linguistics.In the early days it was called the Museum.Historical Exhibition of 1877 was such a success that the Society was able to involve building on the Rue Royale.One of the highlights of the museum is the silver Popta Treasure from the 17th century.The alleged sword of Grand Pier is owned by the museum. The Mata-Hari-room pays special attention to the life of the exotic dancer and alleged spy Mata Hari , Margaretha Zelle, who actually called and came from Leeuwarden.In 2006 / 4, the museum's 125th anniversary.The museum also houses the Resistance Museum Friesland.The preparation of new building of the Fries Museum in Zaailand (Wilhelminaplein) is in full swing.The architect Abe Bonnema has developed a legacy bequeathed to the municipality of Leeuwarden.About the new construction is a referendum held in which the vast majority of voters opposed the new spoke. Nature Museum Fryslan
