By Air

Kumamoto Airport (IATA: KMJ, ICAO: RJFT) is an airport in Mashiki, Kumamoto, Japan.A planned merger of municipalities will be implemented around March 31, 2010; the City of Kumamoto will be merged with the Shimomashiki District town of Jonan and Mashiki.When the merger is completed the airport will be within the City of Kumamoto.

By Train

JR Kumamoto station provides rail links to Japan's extensive rail network. On March 12, 2011, work on the shinkansen (high-speed bullet train) network was completed, establishing a direct high-speed rail link to Tokyo via Fukuoka's Hakata terminus.Several local taxi companies serve the Kumamoto metropolitan area and are the only 24-hour public transport in the city.

By Bus

Local public transport is provided by the Kumamoto City Transportation Bureau.Trams run to a few suburbs near the downtown area.A large bus terminus, called the Kotsu Centre, provides access to both local and intercity destinations.

Kumamoto Castle

is a hilltop Japanese castle located in Kumamoto in Kumamoto Prefecture.It was a large and extremely well fortified castle.The castle keep (tenshukaku) is a concrete reconstruction built in 1960,but several ancillary wooden buildings remain of the original castle.Kumamoto Castle is considered one of the three premier castles in Japan, along with Himeji Castle and Matsumoto Castle.Thirteen structures in the castle complex are designated Important Cultural Property.Kumamoto Castle recently celebrated its 400th anniversary. On December 7, 2007, a large-scale renovation of the Lord's Inner Palace was completed. A public ceremony for the restoration was held on April 20, 2008.

Fujisaki hachimangu shrine

is a Shinto shrine located in Kumamoto, Kumamoto, Japan.It is dedicated to Emperor ojin, Empress Jingu and Sumiyoshi Sanjin.Of the events of the shrine, most known is the parade of Kami with horses in September.This had been called Boshita Festival because seko(followers) followed dancing horses, shouting Boshita Boshita.However, this reminded human-right nervous people of Horoboshita meaning that Korea was destroyed, and the name of Boshita Festival disappeared because of too nervous people.Korea had never been defeated at the time of Kato Kiyomasa. Now they shout, Doukai Doukai.

Boshita Festival

is a festival of Fujisaki-hachimangu at Kumamoto, Kumamoto in every September, characterized by a parade of Kannushi, followed by groups of followers who chase their horses shouting, Boshita, Boshita, in earlier times; but now Dookai Dookai and others. Recently 17,000 people join this festival as followers.The climax of the autumn great festival of Fujisaki-hachimangu comes on the last day of the festival. It consists of the parade of portable shrines, parade following samurais, and parade of decorated horses, chased by many followers.

Suizen-ji Park

The main tsukiyama is a representation of Mount Fuji.Lord Hosokawa Tadatoshi began construction of the garden in 1636 as a tea retreat.The park was named after a no-longer-extant Buddhist temple called Suizen-ji, and now hosts Izumi Shrine, where members of the Hosokawa family are enshrined, and a Nogaku-do, a Noh theater.Lord Hosokawa selected this site because of its spring-fed pond, which clean water was excellent for tea.The thatched Kokin-Denju-no-Ma teahouse was originally in Kyoto's Imperial Palace, but was moved here in 1912, and the garden has been declared by the national government a historic site of scenic beauty.Suizenji Koen is an interesting and much visited venue, featuring miniature landscapes, a temple and small lakes containing large, hungry, and multi-coloured carp.It is a short tram ride from the city.Lots of shops await the local tourist yen.
