Church of Santa Maria

The Church of Santa Maria de Igualada, also known as Big Church is the historic-artistic biggest Igualada, the capital of the region of Anoia. The first settlers were also established around the year 1000, in the area where the current basilica is located at the crossroads linking Barcelona to Aragon and Catalonia Catalonia new with the old. Although the origins of the church of Santa Maria back to the eleventh century, the present building dates basically from the seventeenth century. Converted into a market during the Spanish Civil War, the church of Santa Maria was subsequently restored under the direction of architect César Martinell. In 1949, Santa Maria was, of Pius XII the title of minor basilica. During the eighties took place the last reform, and opened in 1990. The elements that make up the church are the result of the different stages of construction and therefore respond to different architectural styles.

Asylum of the Christ

Holy Christ Haven is located in the Pla de San Agustin de Igualada, one of the areas of urban expansion, located west of the old town of Igualada. It occupies an entire island, the streets of Mila i Fontanals, Prat de la Riba and Sister Rita Mercader. Both its monumental dimensions, such as architectural exuberance is one of the most unique elements of the capital of the region of Anoia. The building began in 1931, from a donation made by the sisters Magdalena and Concepcion Dolores Castells, members of an influential family of local patrons, related to the crown. Between 1936 and 1939 civil war disrupted the work not completed until 1941. In 1943 representatives of the legatees began efforts aimed at making the architectural ensemble in residence for the elderly. It is currently run by the Sisters of the Abandoned Elderly. The building responds to a project of Joan Rubio i Bellver, a pupil of Antonio Gaudí. Although the basic lines are characteristic of modernism, is a late and eclectic building, which integrates different forms of folk architecture in Catalonia.

Skin Museum Igualada

The Museum of Igualada Leather and County of Anoia founded in 1954 is the first in its field of Iberian Peninsula and one of the three existing in Europe. The collections are housed in two buildings in Igualada : the factory of "Cal Boyer" and the old tannery "Cal Granotes." Since 1996 is a section of the Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia ."Cal Boyer" is an old factory textile cotton in the late nineteenth century.

Walk Verdaguer

With about 1.5 miles long can boast of being the longest straight drive of Spain. This walk consists of a central pedestrian walkway, is classical in style, flanked by a line of trees on each side, forming a beautiful "tunnel". This is the main artery of the city, besides being the place to stroll the vast part of the citizenry. Along the promenade you can find various houses and towers with modernist elements of early twentieth century.

Igualada Muleteer's Museum

The Igualada Muleteer's Museum - Antoni Ros collection is a museum located in Igualada, Catalonia, Spain, that displays the evolution of transport using mules, horses and other animals, and the different relationships between several trades that paved the way for the profession of muleteer, including the carter, cooper, saddler, tanner, wicker weaver, farrier, veterinarian, stablehand, woodcutter and wood hauler, harness maker and blacksmith.
