St. Amands Church

The St. Amands Church is the oldest parish church in Geel.It is located near the Markt in the center of the city.It is a late Gothic church built from 1489 - 1532.The predecessor burned down in 1489 off.This was built in Brabant white sandstone.The rebuilding of the church took place from 1490 instead of brick.From the sandstone edifice remained on some parts.The tower has a base of about 1400, is also part of 1489 and was in the middle of the 16th century increased to 59 meters.In 1567, most of the artworks in the church by the iconoclastic destruction.Only images of the Saints Dympna and Gerebernus were spared, as were two paintings, including an Adoration of the Magi.In the south wall are stained glass windows of January Huet to see.

St. Dympna Church

Hospital Museum

The Hospital Museum is a museum in the former hospital in Geel.It is located in Geel-Centrum to Gasthuisstraat in the vicinity of the Church of St.Dympna.The Old Hospital was briefly in 1286 founded by Henry III, Bert Wood, Mr.van Geel.It was a hospital next to the place derived from the sick, the pilgrims had to take care that St.Dympna were raised.It was reportedly the place where her father was murdered by Dympna.It was not a psychiatric hospital.The sick were cared for by lay brothers and sisters.Over the 15th century, however, abuses which grew around 1500 a number of reforms were introduced.It played Jan III van Merode an important role.In Mechelen was already in 1509 the hospital care was transferred to the Hospital Sisters Augustinian.In 1552, three of these sisters to Geel and thus began a new form of management.

Reggae Geel Festival

is a reggae festival that takes place annually since 1978 in the Belgian municipality Call of the city Geel.The festival was created as an outdoor reggae party in 1978.Three years later, a gear connected.That year, indeed the very first live concert on the festival grounds.The vibes were very attractive to work and each year the number of visitors.Harder shifted the emphasis to the live event and were there for the festival big names from Jamaica flown.This attracted the attention of the press and the public and in just five years the public has tenfold.From 1990, programming expanded with a line-up of different groups.From 1995 there is in the Bounce Dancehall and a year later it was decided to expand the festival package with the Friday night.On that first day of the weekend is especially reggae place for dancehall sound systems and the range of peripheral activities grew steadily with the programming of Jamaican film, circus, art and a real reggae market.
