Comalcalco (archaeological zone)

Comalcalco is an archaeological site of the Mayan civilization ,which is located in the municipality of Comalco ,in the state of Mexico of Tabasco ,about 60 km from Villahermosa.The ruins are a necropolis of the Classic Period Maya (I century BC to AD IX) built with bricks and stucco shell oysters.This site is considered the westernmost of the Mayan culture,located approximately 60 km northeast of the city of Villahermosa.The city developed between 700 and 900 AD.The archaeological site is located in the Comalcalco central area Chontalpa on the east bank of Red river ex Seco between the remnants of what was an immense rain forest.
