How to Reach

By air

The nearest major international airports to Caceres are: Madrid Barajas, Seville and Lisbon. Each is around 250-300km from Caceres.
Domestic flights from Madrid  and Barcelona serve Caceres' nearest airport, situated at Talavera in the province of Badajoz, around 90km from Caceres. Talavera airport does not currently handle any international flights.
Airlines serving Madrid from the UK and Ireland : Aer Lingus, British Airways, Easyjet, flyBMI, Iberia, KLM, Lufthansa. Airlines serving Madrid from the USA : American Airlines, Delta, Iberia, KLM.

By railway

Caceres is served by several trains daily originating in Madrid Atocha, Lisbon and Badajoz. Details of all services are available via the RENFE website. Unfortunately trains in this area are currently quite slow in comparison to road transport. However, the journey does hold some speactacular scenery if time is not an issue.Caceres Railway Station is on the outskirts of the city, around 1-2km from the city centre. Taxis are readily available, although it is an easy 10 minute stroll along the Avenida de Alemania to the city centre.A high speed railway is currently under construction linking Madrid and Lisbon via Caceres, Mérida and Badajoz. However, due to various incidents this project is suffering many delays and it is currently unknown when the line will be complete.

By bus

From Madrid: Buses leave Madrid several times each day from the Estación del Sur. The journey takes between three and a half to four and a half hours, depending on the service / time of day. Services usually take a 20 minute break in the town of Navalmoral de la Mata. As of 18 July 2008, a single ticket costs 19,87€ (9,94€ for under 4s) and a return 36,15€ (17,89€ for under 4s) on normal services. On express services this rises to 23,75€ (11,90€) for singles and 43,40€ (21,40€) for returns.

Plaza Mayor de Caceres

Plaza Mayor, is a neighborhood and monumental public space Caceres, main entry point to the monumental city. Bordered on the east side of the canvas of the wall, the best known, with Bujaco tower, the arc of the Star and the Pulpits tower. In the south is the town hall and the forum of Balbo Street Painters and starts, the most commercial of Caceres. On the west façade highlight the arcades and is riddled with bars, restaurants and shops. In the center of the square is a promenade built in 2001.

Arco de la Estrella

The Arch of the Star is the main gateway to the enclosure walls from the fifteenth century, the most famous medieval city of Caceres. Located next to the tower Bujaco, opened in the fifteenth century in the same spot where there was a door to allow the passage of the carriages from the Plaza Mayor, then the wall had lost much of its defensive nature. Then called, for obvious reasons, new door. Before she swore the charters and privileges of the city, given centuries ago by Alfonso IX, the Catholic Monarchs, Isabel on June 30, 1477 and Fernando on February 27, 1479.

Casa del Sol

The Solis' house, or the Sun, is one of the notable buildings of historic grounds Caceres in Spain. Home-style fortress Gothic, was built in the fifteenth century and reformed in the sixteenth. The most significant element of the facade is the family crest, a human face sun whose rays are higher bitten by dragon heads, all crowned by a helmet. A rectangular frame door frames the arch and voussoirs, under the shield. At the top of the tower, then the facade, stands a brocket semicircular slits to form a cross.

Arch of Christ

The Arch of Christ or door Rio is the gateway to the monumental city of Caceres oldest preserved, built in the first century. Located in the center of the eastern flank of the wall. Built of large blocks Romans, are two large arches, on both sides of the wall. On the inside, a niche housing a box cover Christ, located in the early nineteenth century. Attached to the door remains one of the defensive towers that flanked the River Tower. The door leads to the valley that forms the Ribera del Marco, hence the name Rio door.

Arco de Santa Ana

The Arch of Santa Ana is one of the entrances to the walled city of Caceres ( Spain ).From the Muslim era was a step lower than those conducted in the wall to enter the walled city. In 1758 was renovated and enlarged to facilitate passage into the city through them.In the center of the arc opens a niche in which you can see the stone image of St. Anne holding the infant Jesus on her lap.

Puerta de Coria

The bow door or Relief Coria was one of the four-door that had the walled city of Norba Caesarina during the Roman period. He was in the northern part of the site currently occupied by the Plaza del Socorro, in the old city of Caceres ( World Heritage Site since 1986). It remained in use until 1879, when he was felled by an initiative of the local notables of the Liberal Party, Joaquin Munoz Chaves.

Bujaco Tower

Emblem of Caceres and most striking building in the Plaza Mayor, the tower is protected Bujaco the northwestern flank of the monumental city of Caceres.Building is a genuinely Arab erected on a square blocks Romans. Appears underneath a ringl of battlements, two battlements a front side and added in the eighteenth century. On the western side, facing the Plaza Mayor, is the small balcony of the Jurisdictions, the sixteenth century. The tower is about 10 m high side of 25.

Pulpits Tower

The tower is located in the Pulpits West canvas wall of the monumental city of Caceres. Square in plan and built with ashlar granite, is oriented toward the Plaza Mayor. Attached to the outside of the wall is markedly Christian, with its loopholes in a cross and two front corners topped with cylindrical cubes, whose similarity to the pulpit of a church have earned him his name. Is 16 meters high.
