How to Reach

Flights to Canaima village start from Ciudad Bolivar or Caracas or Margarita Island. Most visitors take a two-day trip by air which initially reaches the village of Canaima, where you will do a night stay. This village is located about 40 miles from the Angel falls.

After that visitors need to reach the Canaima Lagoon which can either be reached by a small airplane or via the Orinoco river using the boat, then you will hike from lagoon to the Angel falls view/vista point. Angel falls are located about 5 hours' ride in a dugout canoe upstream from Canaima village. Carmina lagoon is a tea/tannin coloured lagoon with six stunning waterfalls.

There are other ways to reach Angel falls, which are relatively less preferred by most tourists.  The area is filled with grasslands and dense jungle along the course of the rivers. The park entrance fee is about $5 USD. Most people come here is for the three day, two night trip to the base of Angel Falls. Most of the attractions inside Canaima can only be visited with a guided tour..

Canaima National Park

Canaima National Park is located in the south west of Venezuela, south of the Orinoco River in the municipality Gran Sabana of Bolivar State, was declared a national park on 12 June 1962 by the National Executive, in order to protect its attractions and conserve virgin for the rest of the world.

The park has 3 million hectares, making it the second largest protected area Venezuuela and sixth in the world. The real highest waterfall in the world is not permanent and is next to the Angel Falls it is called: La Catira..

Orinoco Rivers

The Orinoco is one of the longest rivers in South America at 2,140 km, (1,330 miles). Its drainage basin, sometimes called the Orinoquia, covers 880,000 km², 76.3% in Venezuela with the rest in Colombia. The Orinoco and its tributaries are the major transportation system for eastern and interior Venezuela and the llanos of Colombia.

Ciudad Bolívar

Ciudad Bolivar is one of the Venezuelan cities that keep more history on its streets, squares and museums. Formerly named Angostura because of its location on the narrowest part of the majestic Orinoco. Site of many independence battles and one of the first regions in the country to be freed from the Spanish bondage; it was declared interim capital of the newly formed republic in 1818 by the Liberator Simon Bolivar. From here, a year later Bolivar addressed the country his famous "Discurso de Angostura" (Angostura's Speech), in which he gave up all the special powers The Congress had granted him and laid out the new republic paradigm.

 El pueblo de Canaima

El pueblo de Canaima es quizá el más visitado dentro del Parque nacional Canaima, está ubicado muy cerca del Tepuy auyantepuy donde nace el salto Ángel, posee buen aeropuerto y realmente la única vía decente de acceso es por aire, puesto que las trochas terrestres no son nada sencillas de transitar.
Más que un pueblo podemos decir que Canaima es un complejo turístico de extraordinaria belleza que se adorna sublimemente con su mejor encanto que es la laguna de Canaima.
La Laguna de Canaima es un descanso natural de las aguas del río carrao que atraviesa esas tierras y que ha esculpido con el tiempo este codo de agua que permite se forme esta hermosa laguna a la que le asisten las aguas por monumentales saltos de pequeña altura pero de gran poder, parecen turbinas que desparraman sus aguas con una fuerza inusitada.
