Cathedral of the Incarnation of Almeria
The Cathedral of the Incarnation , in the city Spanish in Almeria , is the seat of the Episcopal Diocese of Almeria . The building has an architectural transition between late Gothic and Renaissance , and later features baroque and neoclassical .The construction of the cathedral began by order of Fray Diego Fernández de Villalan , Bishop of Almeria , after the earthquake of 1522 , which destroyed the old temple along much of the city. The new cathedral is presumably designed by Diego of Siloam , in style late Gothic , with a design for a fortress that serves as a defense against attacks by pirates and rebellious Moriscos , being well equipped with battlements, turrets, buttresses and walls of lesser height to better withstand impacts of artillery, and a flat roof that could be mounted on the guns. The temple was completed in 1564 , presenting elements and Renaissance construction introduced by Juan de Orea .
