How to Reach

Kadapa, being the headquarters of district with the same name, boasts of a well laid-out network of roadways and railways. Owing to its plethora of tourist attractions, the city receives many tourists round the year. It has interesting places, varying from wildlife sanctuaries to temples and mosques. If you are traveling to Cuddapah and thinking about how to reach there, then don't take stress anymore, since it is easy to arrive at the city. By Air
Cuddapah has its own airport, situated at a distance of 8 km from the city center. This airport runs a few flights, on weekly basis, from Hyderabad and Tirupati. Besides this, airdromes at Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore and Tirupati are quite near to the city. The further distance to be traveled for getting to the city can be covered by private taxis or state buses.

By Rail
Kadapa Railway Station is located on the Chennai-Tirupati-Pune-Mumbai line. From Hyderabad, it lies about 405 km away and regular trains ply on this route. Though the city is not directly connected with the other parts of India by train, the stations at major cities within the state connect it indirectly.

By Road
Cuddapah is connected with the major and minor cities of Andhra Pradesh by both state transport corporation and private buses. The cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Tirupati etc are well connected with Kadapa.

Places to Visit

Gandikota
Gandikota is a small hamlet in Cuddapah district, situated on the banks of Pennar River. About 10 km from Jammalamadugu, the hamlet is popular for housing the Gorge Fort or Gandikota. Founded in 1123 A.D, the fort played an important role during the ruling periods of Kakatiyas, Vijayanagara and Qutub Shahis. This citadel is encircled by unfathomable valleys, impenetrable hills and wild forests. Madhavaraya Temple is the famous shrine inside the fort. It presents a spectacular panoramic view of the valley below.

Gandikota Fort
Situated on the right banks of River Pennar, Gandikota village is renowned for its Fort. Gandikota Fort is beautified with the picturesque beauty of nature and wild forest, thereby making it one of the tourist attractions of Kadapa. The history of the Fort dates back to 112 A.D. Historical records suggests that the Fort was prominent during Kakatiya, Vijayanagara and Qutub Shahi periods.

Pushpagiri
On the banks of Pennar River, Pushpagiri is a picturesque place known for its primeval temples. This group of temples is known as the Pushpagiri Temples. Chennakesava Temple, being the largest one, attracts tourists from far-off places, due to its artistic magnificence. Built during the Vijayanagara period, these temples are amongst the oldest temples of the country.

Gandi
About 7 km from Vempalli in Pulivendula Taluka, Gandi Temple is renowned for housing a huge statue of Sri Anjaneya Swamy. This shrine was established hundreds of years back.

Sri Kodanda Temple
Dedicated to Sri Kodanda Ramaswamy, the temple is illustrious for its brilliant architecture and a stately doorway. This magnificent shrine is located in Vontimitta town, about 25 km from Cuddapah.

Bhagavan Mahavir Government Museum
Bhagavan Mahavir Government Museum has been established by the Government to conserve the important artifacts of the primeval age. It has a collection of valued bronze icons, antediluvian stone sculptures and primitive inscriptions. The priceless artifacts peep into the ancient civilization.

Ameen Peer Dargah
Kadapa district is a much visited destination by Muslims as well, because the well known Ameen Peer Dargah is located there. The 325 year of Dargah is visited by thousands of pilgrims every year. One can witness flock of devotees especially on Thursdays and Fridays, because they visit the Dargah to seek blessings of Saint Peerullah Hussaini and Saint Arifullah Hussaini, who were buried here.

Sri Venkateswara Wild Life Sanctuary
Located in Rajampet, Sri Venkateswara Wild Life Sanctuary is a very popular national park. It is home to rare and slender Lories. Plant species like Sandalwood, Thumbergiana, Shorea and Redsandars can be found in the sanctuary.
