How to Reach

By plane

Direct trains to Zaandam run twice every hour from Schiphol Airport. (These trains have destination Hoorn). In all other cases you can take any train with destination Amsterdam Centraal that stops at Amsterdam Sloterdijk and change there for Zaandam.

By train

Zaandam is just two stops from Amsterdam Central Station. You pass through station Amsterdam Sloterdijk. Trains leave regularly 4-8 trains per hour) until 1 am.
If you are on to visit the Zaanse Schans open air museum, take the "Sprinter" train with destination Uitgeest (runs 4x per hour on weekdays, half-hourly on Saturdays and Sundays) and get off at Koog-Zaandijk railway station (4th stop). From here it is about 10 min.walk to the Zaanse Schans

By car

Take from the northern part of the circular road of Amsterdam (Ringweg A10) the A8 to Zaanstad/Zaandam, and just follow the signs.

By bus

Connexxion bus lines 92 and 94 run at least 4x per hour to Zaandam Centre (Peperstraat Bus Station) and Zaandam Railway Station. Bus line 91 runs from Amsterdam Central station to the Zaanse Schans open air museum.

Zaans Museum

The Museum is a museum in Zaandam Zaandam at the Zaanse Schans . It is set in a contemporary designed building of 16,500 m 3. The building was designed by architect Cor van Hillo. The museum has since March 11, 2009 added a new wing, the Verkade Pavilion. In this pavilion, the corporate collection of family Verkade shown. The museum is located at the Zaans Kalverpolder , a nature reserve of Forestry .
In 2001, the museum received a mention at the presentation of the annual European Museum of the Year Award . The jury praised in particular the modern and open architecture of the building, the location of the building relative to the historical reconstruction of the Zaanse Schans and the educational programs and the presentation of the permanent collection.

Hembrugmuseum

The Hembrugmuseum to Zaandam in North Holland is a museum about the history of the Artillery Systems . When the last part of the company there in 2003 finally put Hembrug site meant the end of a centuries-long corporate history. The company was founded in 1679 and is best known under the name Artillery Systems. It stood at the cradle of contemporary companies such as Explosive Ordnance Disposal , the Post Office (PTT), TNO and many others.

Volkspark

People's Park is the oldest park in Zaandam , located along the track, between the provincial road and the canal.On Tuesday, 17 June 1890 in Zaandam's Park was officially opened. The park was a gift (in honor of his 40th wedding anniversary) of timber merchant / C. Dijkgraaf Corver Wessem to the Zaanse population, which in turn was the donor of a memorial column. It is HBStephan JHEilmann and designed in the then popular English landscape style.

Pentagon Park

Vijhoekpark It is a park in the town of Zaandam in Zaandam .The park is bordered to the north by the Thorbeckeweg, sports Poelenburg in the east, the North and IJ Zeedijk in the south and the west Wibautstraat.There is a pond in the park with three ditches. In the lake are two islands. The largest is about 12 meters wide and about 40 meters long. And the smaller about 8 meters wide and seven meters long.

Darwin Park

The Darwin Park is a park in Zaandam . The Darwin Park is one of the green lungs of the city.The park is named after Charles Darwin , and was created around 1970. The original design was not very successful: the park was a transit area.Darwin from 2000, the park was completely renovated and has greatly changed in character it is now a residential area. The new design of the Darwin Park is based on the future of the Darwin Park , Nicole van der Heijden and Velser Jaap Boer .

Zaanse Schans

The Zaanse Schans is a neighborhood in the town of Zaandam , located on the Zaan , facing Zaandijk and next to the Juliana Bridge. It is a famous outdoor attraction with approximately 900,000 visitors. Formally, it is not a museum . It is designed with the intention of the historical heritage.The name is derived from the ramp that Diederik Sonoy , governor in the service of William of Orange in 1574 had built so the Spanish troops to stop.Between 1961 and 1974 , many old buildings from the Zaan with low-loaders to the Zaanse Schans and brought in former glory. Existing mills were restored. Later buildings are frequently moved to the Zaanse Schans.
