By Train

Vlissingen is the end of the line Zeeland . Vlissingen has two railway stations, station Souburg Vlissingen and Vlissingen Station (formerly Harbour Station Vlissingen ) was also used to Vlissingen Town Station . On the present drive to stop trains and intercity trains. Caught Tower

Caught the tower on the boulevard in Vlissingen is a remnant of the Western Gate of the 16th century . The tower also known as the 'bomb' is mentioned is alternately composed of layers of brick and stone and with a pointed hood. Today, the monument in use as a café-restaurant.The Western Gate was built around 1491 and consisted of two towers separated by a gate: the Prison Tower facing the sea and an old Powder Tower landside. After the city in 1563 expanded to the west and the new Middlesbrough Vorota the Western Gate was built lost its function as a city gate . In 1610 the building got a new job as a city jail. Until then, the prison located in the basement of the former town hall on the Bellamy Park. A new city hall was inaugurated in 1610 and the Prison Tower was appointed as the new prison. In the middle building of the Western Gate was straight talk, and condemned prisoners were put in the Tower Caught. Feared was "the dark pit ', a room in the basement where the worst criminals punished ended.

Great or Saint James

St. James the Great or often referred to as St. James is a former Roman Catholic Church, since 1572 the church belongs to the Dutch Reformed Church. The church is located in Vlissingen at the Old Market, walking around the streets behind the Church Street and Lepelstraat distillery.The church was already between 1308 and 1328 also founded the bottom part of the St. James tower dates from that time. Merchant Marine Memorial Vlissingen

The Merchant Navy Memorial is a monument to the Boulevard Evertsen to Vlissingen . It was designed by expressionist sculptor Couzijn Wessel . The design was actually intended as a national monument merchant in Rotterdam , to commemorate the more than 3500 sailors who died in the sinking of 500 Dutch merchant ships during World War II . Rotterdam chose not to design Couzijn, but preferred a more traditional design by sculptor Fred Carasso . His image , the bow was in 1957 in Rotterdam revealed.

Lutheran Church

The Lutheran Church in Vlissingen is located in Walstraat 23.This simple church in 1735 founded on the ground where it has been Schuttershof of St. George. Maritime Institute de Ruyter

Maritime Institute de Ruyter (MIR) is one of the maritime schools in the Netherlands. The name comes from the famous historic naval hero Michiel de Ruyter . For over 100 years the school is located in Vlissingen on the Boulevard. Special is the fact that the ships sail past 200 meters.

Open column

Open the column is a work of art on the boulevard in Vlissingen . The column of stainless steel was designed by sculptor André Volten and in 1984 donated to the town by the Royal Society the Scheldt to mark the 100th anniversary of the Vlissingen shipyard .The Open column "consists of a tapered polished pedestal of which the upper portion of the shaft appears to be pushed. On the side of the column Coosje Buskenstraat which exploded to believe that image is higher and also more tension in the work brings. At night, the 18 meters high column illuminated from within. The Saint James the Great Church was a Roman Catholic church on Wilhelminalaan in Vlissingen .The church was built in 1858 to replace a church from 1806. The architect was Molkenboer Theo , who designed an aisled church in neo-Gothic style. Above the entrance was a small tower. The James was originally the parish church of Vlissingen, but lost that job in the 1930s to the larger Our Lady of the Rosary Church on the Singel. In 1938, the James Church closed and demolished.

Orange Mill

The Orange Mill, a flour mill and former Pelmolen the Orange Dike in Vlissingen and because of its geographical location, a good wind catcher as an eye catcher.
