By train

Schaffhausen is accesible by Zürich S-Bahn S16 from Zürich Hbf, which takes 1 hour

By car

From Zurich: Take the A4/E41 direction north. It will lead you right into the city. Note that you need a vignette for all swiss highways.

  • Walk through the old city,  and admire the renaissance buildings.
  • Visit the Munot fortress, and enjoy the view over the old city and the beautiful landscape.
  • The Rhine falls, are the largest waterfalls in Europe. Walk (30 mins to the suburb Neuhausen am Rheinfall) or take the bus (no.1 in direction to bus no.1 Neuhausen) there. Alternatively you can take the car and exit at Laufen on the A4/E41 so it is pretty congested in the summer. Visitors can see the waterfalls up close from several viewing platforms, and can also take a boat up to an outcropping in the middle of the falls. A speciality is the firework on the night of the 1st August (national holiday)
