By Air

Santa Maria Airport is located 12 km far from downtown, in the neighborhood of Camobi.It has capacity for large airplanes and offers daily flights to Porto Alegre, Santo Angelo and Uruguaiana.The same facility is shared by the Santa Maria Air Force Base of the Brazilian Air Force.

By Train

Railways are used for cargo transportation, mainly of agricultural products, automobile parts and food.

By Road

Santa Maria is a major highway and railroad hub.The city has a strategic location in connecting Brazil to other Mercosul countries, mainly through the following highways: BR-158 - connects Santa Maria to northern and southwestern Rio Grande do Sul, allowing access to Uruguaiana, in the Argentine border and to Rivera, Uruguay.BR-287 - east-west highway, connecting the city to the capital of the state, Porto Alegre.

By Ferry

Santa Maria is 110 km from the River Terminal of Cachoeira do Sul, which allows ship transport until the port of Porto Alegre through the Jacui River and from there to the Atlantic Ocean, through the Lagoa dos Patos.

Day of Paleorrota

On 21 and 22 May 2011, was held the first day of Paleorrota, where the museums of palaeontology at Porto Alegre, Candelaria, Santa Maria, Sao Pedro do Sul and Mata, opened their doors to visits from tourists.The day of Paleorrota should occur every year in May during the week's national museum.Earlier this week on May 17 is the anniversary of the city of Santa Maria.

Thirteen Theater May

is a former theater in Santa Maria, in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, located in Saldanha Marinho Square in the city center.The theater was built between 1889 and 1890 under the inspiration of John of God Daudt and a group of friends who met in January 27th of 1889 with the intention of founding a house of entertainment in the city.At the time donated 20 contos.The project was Carlos Boldrin.To raise additional funds Daudt company was a dramatic, where he was director and actor and the performances of income reverted to the building.Until 1913 the house received many companies, theater, opera and operetta as well as varieties but this date the building was acquired by the municipality and in 1916 was turned off passing the house several government agencies and even the writing of a newspaper.In 1992 a campaign was launched to restore and the building was restored and renovated, receiving modern equipment.Without resources the reform stalled, but the community got together and completed the missing funds enabling the completion of works and the reopening of the theater in its original functions, which happened in 1995.

Museum Vincent Pallotti

is located at the Vincent Pallotti Avenida Presidente Vargas, 115 in District Employers in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul. Visits must be booked in advance.The Museum has many rooms with great emphasis on the area of paleontology, with fossils of the Geopark of paleorrota.In the year 1935 the district of Vale Veneto in Polesine St John's, Father Joseph and Father Valentine Pivetta Zamberlan, experts in taxidermy began the Museum a stuffed raccoon which is still part of the collection of same.In 1959, for lack of space in Vale Veneto were transferred to the Maximum Pallottine College in Santa Maria.On the other hand in 1964, Father Daniel Cargnin, began an educational establishment in this museum collecting various objects and fossils of the Geopark of paleorrota.On January 7, 1965, the museum received the first fossil excavated in the famous Cerro Alemoa, near the town of Santa Maria.From this date their growth became famous thanks especially to the efforts of Daniel Cargnin Cargnin and Abraham.Then in the year 1994 in order to solve the structural problem of the museum was given its first phase of organization that lasted until the year 1998 with much effort and several attempts we obtained some improvements as well.In the year 1998 began the second phase of the organization.

Gama D'Eca Educational Museum

linked to the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), is located in the center of Santa Maria , in the state of Brazil 's Rio Grande do Sul.The mansion -seat of the museum is located on Camp Street, No 81.The Museum visiting hours are Monday to Friday, from 8 to 12 and from 13 to 17h.The museum building was built in 1913 for Dr. Astrogildo Cesar de Azevedo.This house was designed by architect German Theodor Wiederspahn and construction work accompanied by engineer Henry Schultz.The imposing building occupies an area of ​​533.80 meters square, divided between its two floors.The museum was named in honor of Jose Maria da Gama Lobo d'Eca, the Baron of SAIC, who was born in Armacao de Alagoinha, Ilha de Santa Catarina, on 15 September 1793.Son of Brigadier Jose Coelho da Gama Lobo d'Eca and Elisa Joaquina da Conceicao Coimbra, sat square in the regiment under the command of his father, as a cadet at 5 years of age, to 15 years participated in the Campaign Cisplatin as a lieutenant; to 17 assumed command of the Grenadier Company and Colonel of Militia, operating in missions.Came to Santa Maria by order of Viscount de Castro , to establish their headquarters here.

Paleontological Site Arroio Cancela

is located within the city of Santa Maria, a municipality of Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost state of Brazil.The site is situated in the neighbourhood Nossa Senhora de Lourdes at an altitude of 107 metres above sea level.The fossils have been discovered within the sediments of the Santa Maria Formation, they are vertebrates from the Triassic period and are about 225 million years old.This site is part of the Geopark Paleorrota and is easily accessible, because the Central Bus Station Station of Santa Maria is merely 600 Metres away. Only one hundred metres from the site at the corner of the streets Irmão Donato and Otavio Alves de Oliveira, is the school State General Edson de Figueiredo and a nearby shopping centre.Thirty-five metres higher in elevation (and stratigraphy) one finds the Paleontological Site Largo Padre Daniel Cargnin and the Paleontological Site Bela Vista. Sanga da Alemoa

is a paleontological site is located in the city of Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil.It belongs to the Caturrita Formation and the Santa Maria Formation.It is located in the neighborhood of Castelinho.The site belongs to the paleorrota region.Historically the Sanga da Alemoa is one of the most important paleontological sites in Brazil.It was this site that came out Staurikosaurus, the first Brazilian dinosaur and one of the oldest found in the world.Researchers collected fossil in this site that drew attention of international researchers who later visited the region.These local researchers shaped the paleontological research in the region and Brazil.For all these contributions and historical factors the Sanga da Alemoa is now known internationally.The site was discovered by Professor and geographer Antero de Almeida in 1901 when the first fossil was found at the site and also the first fossil of paleorrota.In 1999 Max Cardoso Langer and colleagues collected on the spot the dinosaur Saturnalia Tupiniquim.
