Air :
Regular Indian Airlines services directly connect Ranchi with Patna, Calcutta and New Delhi.
Rail :
By rail also, it is very well connected with major cities of the country falls on South Eastern Railways.
Road :
Ranchi is a junction or N.H.23 and 33 and there are good roads around it. There are regular bus services from here to all important places or the State. BSTDC is also running its coaches, From Patna - Ranchi - Patna daily.

Places to Visit

 Jonha Fall
    —
      Jonha fall is about 40 kms away from Ranchi. (Ranchi-Angara-Amrdubagan--Joha fall) One may go there by daily service private Bus or Jeep from Khadgarha bus stand. But if you have own vehicle it would be very better as too much crowd may be seen on service Bus or Jeep. A beautiful scene may be seen while going to Jonha as the whole area is covered with unique types of forest trees. There is a valley named Chamghati in the way, the scene of the valley is beautiful.

There is a hospice (Tourist Rest House) at the fall that accommodates Lord Gautam Buddha's temple. This fall is named after Gautam Buddha so it is also called Gautam Dhara. One may there up to Gautam Dhara station by train also.

On every Tuesday & Saturday a Mela (fair) is organized in  Jonha. This Mela is famous in that area.  

 Hundru Fall
    —
      Hundru fall is about 38 km. far from Ranchi. (Ranchi-Angara--Getalsud-Hundru fall). At this  place the Swarnarekha river falls from the height of 320 ft. & makes a beautiful scene. At the base of the fall a beautiful pool has been formed that allows the visitors to enjoy bathing.

It is warned, not to go there in the rainy season as it is risky. But in summer season it becomes one of the best picnic spots.

 Dasam Fall
    —
      It is situated about 40 km. away from Ranchi near Taimara village on Tata road. The Kanchi river falls in this river from the height of 144 ft. and makes a pretty scene. The fall is encircled with charming scenes.

It is not a safe place to enjoy bathing as the stones are slippery and streams are fast.

  Netarhat
    —
       
      It is situated about 144 km away from Ranchi, Netarhat stands on a plateau of Chhotanagpur and is covered with the thick virgin forests, barren rocks and verdant hillocks at an altitude of 3700 ft. above sea level. It is an excellent tourist spot. Here the sun rise and sun set views are superb. There is a residential school called the Netarhat Residential School nearby. All weather motor able road up to Netarhat facilitates the journey of the tourists. Among several Dak- bungalows meant for tourists. Palamau Dak-Bungalow is the best for seeing scenic beauties of Netarhat. Other places of tourist interest in Netarhat are -

    * Magnolia Point :- 10 kms from Netarhat. It is an ideal site for sunset view.
    * Upper Ghaghri water falls :- 4 km. from Netarhat, a unique picnic spot.
    * Lower Ghaghri water falls :- Situated at a distance of 10 km. from Netarhat. A place of scenic beauty and picnic spot.
    * Koel View Point :- 3 km. from Netarhat and a good site to view Koel river.
    * Lodh Fall :- 61 km. from Netarhat and one of the biggest water falls of Jharkhand where water falls from a height of 468 feet.
    * Sadani Fall :- 35 km. from Netarhat a, snake type water fall and a popular picnic spot.

      Best Season   :- Throughout the year.
    * What to see :- Hieun Tsang Memorial Hall, The Nalanda University Complex, Swarajpur Baragon. The Nalanda Museum (Opens 10.00 AM to 05.00 PM hours. Friday close.)
    * Distance of some other tourist place :- Bihar Sharif 13 km., Gaya 65 km., Bodh Gaya 50 km., Rajgir 12 km.

  Hazaribagh National Park
    —
     
This park is situated  about 135 km. far from Ranchi. It occupies about 184 sq. km. of area. The park has Tigers, Panthers, Sambhars, Spotted Deer, Bisons and a number of Mammalian faunas. There are some towers which the tourists use to behold the beasts. A canteen is also there to cater.  


Temperature: Summer-  19.40- 41.10  ; Winter-  70 - 25.50

Best Season : October to March.
 
Tour in the Park

Trip to the park starts at 05.00 PM hours from the Divisional Forest Office, West Division, Hazaribagh and it ends at 10.00 PM hours.  The charge is Rs.50 per head.

Reservation: Divisional Forest Officer, West Division, Hazaribagh.
Entry fees for vehicles inside the park: Bus (full)- Rs.75; Mini Bus- Rs.50; Station Wagon/Car/Jeep/Private Car- Rs.20; Motor Cycle- Rs.10 and Taxi- Rs.25.
Spot Light Fee: Rs.20 per trip.
Note: Fire arms are not allowed inside the National Park.
Distance of some other tourists spots:

Canari Hill (5 km.) : Rickshaws available from the Hazaribagh town.
Rajrappa Falls (89 km.): State Transport Bus operates an early morning daily service to this place from the town.
Suraj Kund (72 km.) : Hot spring. Buses are available from the town.

Betla National Park
    —
The Betla National Park had been first established as a sanctuary and later on upgraded to a National Park. It occupies about 250 sq. km. of area. It is situated about 156 km. far from Ranchi and 25 km. from Daltongaj. There is not scarcity of Bus from Ranchi to Daltongaj and even from Daltonganj to Betla. The park has a variety of wild animals including Elephants, and a number of Sambhars, Deers etc. The authority of the park has provided Jeep equipped with Search light to the visitors to enjoy their trip in the park.

 


    
Jaivik Udyan (Zoological Garden)

It is situated about 16 km. far from Ranchi on Ranchi-Ramgarh road(NH-33) near Ormanjhi. It is a zoological garden named Virsa Jaivik Udyan. A number of mammalian faunas have been collected there for visitors gaiety.

  Rajrappa

Rajrappa is situated at the convergence of river Damodar and Bhairavi (popularly known as Bhera) far from 80 km. from Ranchi. (Ranchi- Ramgarh-Rajrappa). The headless temple of Goddess Chhinnamastika stands on the body of Kamdeo and Rati in Lotus bed. This temple is supposed to be very sacred. It is a very old one and its architectural design resembles the design of temples of Tantrik importance. A number of attractive temples have been build around the main temple. A large number of pilgrimage come here throughout the year particularly from Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bangal.

It is also famous for marriage ceremony, pilgrimage from all status come here and perform their marriage. Childrens Mundan rituals are also performed here. This place is very famous among the vehicles owners as it is believed that the first worship of vehicles at this place multiply the life of vehicles and luck of owners. On 14th of January (Makar Sankranti) a special religious fair is organized that is visited by lacs of people. A fair is also organized on Vijaydashmi.

One can enjoy bathing and boating in the river near the main temple. Except the beauty of temple, the beauty of nature can also be enjoyed. A beautiful scene can be seen from the roof of the temple. It is not only a famous religious palace but also the best picnic spot.

A beautiful scene can be seen in the way of Rajrappa. Hilly land covered with forest trees increase the beauty of the area.

  Baidyanath Dham

      Baidynathdham is a very famous religious place of Hindu religion. This place is also known as Babadham. There is a famous temple of Lord Shiva, that has Kamna Ling, on which holly JAL (water) is offered throughout the year especially on the every week of Monday. In Shrawan month, lacs of devotees come on foot from all over india to offer the holly water of river Ganga (from Sultangaj about 100 km. far from Babadham).

One can reach at Baidyanathdham by Train or by Bus also. There is a station called Jaisidih, about 7 km. far from this place on Hawrah-Patna rail line of Eastern Railway. Daily bus service is also available from Ranchi.

 Ranchi Hill

(Pahari Mandir)

      One of the popular place of Ranchi. It is situated at an altitude of 2140 feet from the sea level. There is a temple of God Shiva at the top of the hill. The whole city can be seen from the top of the hill. The trees of various kinds multiply the beauty of the hill particularly in the rainy season. In SHRAWAN month the people offer JAL to God Shiva in the same way as at Baijnath Dham in Deoghar.

Best place to spend holiday. It is situated about 4 km. far from the Albert Akka Chowk, in front of CMPDI Headquarters in Kanke Road.

It has tried to resemble its design to the Rock Garden of Jaipur. There is a Jhula, made of Iron rod has only two pole. There are several ridiculous statue made of stone.

It is situated about 3 Km far from Albert Akka Chowk near Ram Krishna Mission Ashram, Morabadi, Ranchi (JHARKHAND).

It is supposed that several books have been written by  Ravindra Nath Tagore at the top of the hill.

There is a castle on the hill in a rough condition. Despite this its construction attracts the people.

The whole Ranchi can be seen from the top of the hill. The views are very pleasant to eyes

Its height is about 300 ft. Ramkrishna Mission Ashram & it's office, Centre of Divyayan and Agrarian Vocational Institute is situated near it.

Sun Temple

    This temple is  is situated about 39 km. far from Ranchi on Ranchi-Tata road. There is a village near temple called Bhundu. One may go to the temple by daily services private Buses or Jeeps from Khadgarha bus stand. There is a statue of a RATH attached with 18 wheels and 7 horses. It has been built by Sanskrit Vihar headed by Shri Ram Maroo, the managing director of Ranchi Express. This is a very beautiful place to spend holiday with family. A Dhaba (motel) is also situated near the temple that has good facility of lunch & dinner.

 Ranchi Lake

      It is situated at the heart of the city. It was excavated by Col. Onsely, a British Agent in 1842. The lake has an added attraction of boating for the visitors.

 

Jagannath Mandir
 This temple had been built by the king of Barkagarh Jagannathpur, Thakur Ani Nath Shahdeo on 25th December 1691. After a long period this temple got damaged (itself) on 6th August 1990. Again, the damaged temple was reconstructed from 8th February 1992 and still it is under construction.

How to reach:

This temple is situated about 10 km. far from Albert Akka Chowk (Firayalal Chowk) in the HEC area near Sector - 3. It is one of the religious place of ranchi. The holy Jagannath Rath Yatra is also organized here as in Puri, Orrisa. Its architectural design resembles the Jagannath temple of Puri.
Hundru Falls : ‘Hundru Falls’ one of the most picturesque falls surrounding Ranchi.It is 45 kms from Ranchi on Ranchi-Purulia Road.. Here, the Subarnarekha river falls from a height of 320 feet. The pools at the bottom of the falls are favourite picnic and bathing spots.
    


Jonha Falls : also known as Gautamdhara is around 40 Kms from Ranchi. It is approachable by both Road and train. The fall can be admired by descending around 500 steps. There is a tourist  rest house which contains Lord Buddha temple. The river Kanchi flows nearby.

Dassam falls: is 34 kms from Ranchi on Ranchi-Tata Road near a village called Taimara. Here, the Kachni river falls from an altitude of 144 feet. It is also known as Dassam Gagh.
    


Panch Gagh falls: is on Ranchi- Chakradharpur Road about 6 kms from  Khunti. This fall consists of five streams which falls from a good height.

Hirni falls: Another beautiful waterfall amidst  forests about 70 km from Ranchi.
 

 

Hundru falls :
'Hundru Falls' (45 kms on Ranchi - Purlia road) where the Subarnarekha river cascades down from an altitude of 320 feet is a sight not to be missed especially in monsoon or when the wind sets the motion. The pools at the base of the falls are favourite picnic and bathing spots.

Johna Falls :
'Johna Falls' 40 kms on Ranchi - Purulia road) also known as Gautam Dhara, is another enchanting retreat amidst rich flora and fauna beside the Kanchi river. The scenery around it is very picturesque and it is a popular picnic spot. To admire the fall one is required to descend 500 pared steps.

Sita and Dassam Falls :
Adjacent to Jonha falls is Sita falls which can be seen at its best early in the morning. Afternoons may best be saved for the Dassam Falls (34 kms on Ranchi - Tata Road) where river Kanchi falls from a height of 114 feet.

Hirni Falls :
'Hirni Falls' is another fascinating water fall with beautiful surroundings. It is situated 75 kms from Ranchi.

Breeding Center :
23 kms from Ranchi is the Mutta Muggar Breeding centre in Ormanjhi which took off with 3 Bihari muggars (crocodiles) & 2 from Chennai. Today they account for over fifty Nearby is the biological park replete with valuable samples of wild-life.

Mc Cluskieganje :
Mc Caluskieganje, 60 kms from Ranchi on Highway 41 is a sleepy hamlet amidst green forests. The name evokes nostalgia and one gradually discovers that the place was once popular with Anglo-Indian community. During the 1950s there were no less than 100 Anglo-Indian families with their typical cottages, clubs and shops.

Ranchi Hill and
Ranchi Lake :
The scenic attractions of the town have much to offer to its visitors. The landmark of Ranchi is a hill, bearing a temple of Shiva on its summit, with a lake at its foot, known as 'Ranchi Lake'. One can have a panoramic view of the town and the surroundings from the top of the hill.

Tagore Hill :
On the periphery of Ranchi is "Tagore Hill", named after Rabindra Nath Tagore, who is believed to have written a part of his famous Gitanjali here, besides other poems. Ram Krishna Ashram is situated at the foot of the attractive hill.

Kankedam & Jagannath Temple :
On one end of Ranchi is the 'Kanke Dam' which is ever crowded with tourists. It is a popular picnic spot. Few kilometers from the dam and 10 kms from Ranchi is the 17th century "Jagannath Temple" where the annual Rath Yatra (car festival) is held in the month of June/July.

Dhurwa Dam :
There is another beautiful dam known as 'Dhurwa Dam". It is about 12 kms from the city.

It is situated just besides Firayalal Chowk.

Machli Ghar :
It is situated near Raj Bhawan.

Nakshatra Van :
It is besides Machli Ghar near Raj Bhawan.

Pahari Mandir :
It is at the top of a hill,in the heart of the city.

Rock Garden :
It is 4 kms. from the city on Kanke road.

Rajrappa:
It is the temple of Goddess Kali,also known as Chhinamastika 65 kms.from Ranchi.

Surya Temple:
It is on NH 33 road on Ranchi-Tata highway.
