St. John's Basilica

The Basilica of St. John the Baptist and St. John's Basilica, the main Roman Catholic church in Oosterhout.From excavations it is known that in 1277 already a Romanesque three-aisled church stood. Around 1473 began with the replacement of the church by a church in Gothic style . In 1493 the church was completed. The tower was built from 1519 to 1552 . This was inspired by the tower of the Great Church of Breda, but was never completed. In later centuries the church was rebuilt several times.

Lock Brakenstein
