By Air

Salgado Filho International Airport (IATA: POA, ICAO: SBPA) is the nearest airport to Novo Hamburgo the airport serving Porto Alegre, Brazil.It is named after the Senator and first Minister of the Brazilian Air Force Joaquim Pedro Salgado Filho (1888–1950), killed on June 20, 1950 in an accident with an aircraft which departed from Porto Alegre.In 2010 the airport was ranked 8th in terms of transported passengers and aircraft operations and 10th in terms of cargo handled in Brazil, placing it amongst the busiest airports in the country.It is operated by Infraero.

By Train

The first train arrived in Novo Hamburgo on the 1st of January 1876.The station was named Novo Hamburgo Station.The railway did not go through the village of Hamburguer Berg, the station was built some 3 km away thus, a new urban area began to develop around the railway station.Only in 1882 the Novo Hamburgo station was connected at the village which was named as Hamburguer Berg, this line eventually was extended to Canela in 1922.

By Road

The main access route to New Hamburg is the BR-116.The city also has the highway RS-239, which connects New Hamburg Riozinho.

Paschoal Charlemagne Theatre

located at the Culture Department of Novo Hamburgo, has a capacity for approximately 490 people.Paranoia Productions has a school in the theatre trains local actors.The school has sent students to the biggest cities of the country to work inplays and shows.The Feevale University inaugurated on 20th of September 2011 the largest theatre in the state of Rio Grande do Sul with a capacity to 1.805 spectators in Novo Hamburgo.The theatre was built in the campus II of the university.It is administered in partnership with Opus Promotions.

Schmitt-Presser Museum

Schmitt-Presser Museum it was mansion built in the first half of the nineteenth century by German immigrant Johann Peter Schmitt in Hamburgo Velho district of Novo Hamburgo.It is one of the oldest examples of architecture exaimel in Rio Grande do Sul state.In 1974, the artist Ernesto Frederico Scheffel decided to take the first step of preserving the house and in 1981, was declared a public utility by the city and listed by IPHAN, four years later.In 1992, the building was opened to the public as House Community Museum Schmitt-Presser.

Church of Reis Magos

The Evangelical Church Three Kings was opened the first temple on January 6, 1833.It was the first Evangelic Church built in Novo Hamburgo and considered one of the first ones in Rio Grande do Sul state.It was a simple house made of mud (enxaimel style).A new temple was renovated in 1846, without the external features of the old one because the style was forbidden by the constitution of the empire.In 1895 the community decided to buy three bells from Bochum, Germany and began to build the church tower.Three years later the construction was completed.Finally in 1926, the current temple was opened for community.

Monument to the shoemaker

was designed by Flavio Scholles to homage to the workers of shoe factories in Novo Hamburgo.It was inaugurated on 01/05/1979.Flavio Scholles represents six times, which means that the workers worked six days a week, under an eight-hour clock, representing eight hours a day working on the production lines of shoes.

Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis Gonzaga

is the main church in the city of Novo Hamburgo, Rio Grande do Sul.The foundation of the future Church was started in January 7, 1924 after purchasing land with 9.650m2, where it is today the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis Gonzaga.The new church was planned to be built with three naves, and average lengths of 25m by 18m wide by Architect Jose Lutzenberger and the works were sponsored by the Construction Breidenbach Mosmann & Cia.On June 6, 1952 Archbishop Dom Vicente Scherer, Porto Alegre, gave the blessing the new Matrix.It was covered part of the building in July 1953.On March 21, 1954 inaugurated a part of the Matrix and the next day the chapel was demolished in 1924 (his material was sent to build a parish in the district Rondônia, called Lady Of Thanks).In 1956 it was destroyed the dividing wall and placed the majestic scale of the new Temple.In the same year was installed tubular organ "Bohn" (currently valued at U.S. $ 133,000).In 1959 was contracted Italian painter Aldo Locatelli to make the sacred paintings of Sao Luiz Gonzaga, patron of St. Louis Parish and that today one can see in the presbytery of this church.With the creation of the Diocese of Novo Hamburgo on March 30, 1980, was elevated to Cathedral Sao Luiz Gonzaga.The cathedral was consecrated only in October 12, 1991.It became Cathedral Dedicated and from this date earned the title of Cathedral Basilica St. Louis Gonzaga.Between 1994 and 1995 a major restoration was done with external lighting towers and side (78 Installed spotlights sodium).

Public Library of Machado De Assis

localized in Novo Hamburgo, Rio Grande do Sul state.The Library building was built in 1908 in Gothic German.Earlier worked as Evangelical School (1909 to 1921) and was later occupied by several families.This building was built as public property in 1978 and February 18, 1982 was delivered to the population as permanent seat of the municipal Public Library.

Foundation Ernesto Frederico Scheffel

is a museum of Brazil, located in the town of New Hamburg, in Rio Grande do Sul.The museum is housed in a building style neoclassical, built in 1890 in the district of Old Hamburg.In its three floors are exposed paintings, sculptures, drawings and sheet music according to the different phases of the artist Ernesto Frederico Scheffel, becoming one of the largest art galleries in the world among the works composed by the same artist.Built in 1890 by Adolphe Adam Schmitt the neoclassical-style house where he currently works Scheffel Foundation has served the people as different forms: as a residence as a place of cultural events such as home shopping and even a hospital it was restored by the municipality it now houses more than 400 works of Ernest Frederick Scheffel.
