Kajaani Castle

Kajaani Castle is a 1600s built a fortress Bitch rapids on the island of Kajaani river current in Kajaani in the city center. Today, the collection contains about 19 700 objects.Exhibition have been located on three floors, but now (2007-2008), the museum is undergoing a significant renovation, after which the exhibition spaces will be on two floors. Renovation will be completed in the summer of 2008.
The permanent exhibition presents the Kainuu province's history and culture as well as the history of Kajaani. These include, for example. the tree multiple uses, tar production and transport, Elias Lonnrot's activities, the region's military history and Kajaani, a former city life.
