Santuario de Las Lajas

The Shrine of Our Lady of Las Lajas is a temple and basilica for Catholic worship and veneration of Our Lady of Las Lajas located in Ipiales, southern Colombia and is a destination for pilgrimage and tourism from the eighteenth century. The sanctuary is located in the river canyon Guaitara in the township of Las Lajas municipality of Ipiales, seven kilometers from the municipal town in the department of Narino (Colombia) and 10 km from the border with Ecuador. The present construction, the fourth since the eighteenth century, replaced a chapel dating from the nineteenth century and is a gray stone church style white Gothic Revival, in imitation of the Gothic of the fourteenth century, consisting of three ships built on a bridge of two arcs crossing over the river and makes atrium or plaza of the Basilica uniting with the other side of the canyon.The height of the temple, from its base to the tower is 100 meters, and the bridge is 50 meters by 17 meters wide and 20 meters long.

Plaza Twentieth of July
