Apart from cruises (with night onboard) like the Bassac boats, there is no more regular boat transportation to Can Tho. As the time necessary for a car trip from HCMC as been reduced to less than 4 hours with the opening of the Can Tho bridge and the motorway around HCMC, there is no reason for a speed boat service anymore.

By road allow about 1.5 hours from Soc Trang, about 3 hours from Chau Doc, about 3.5 hours from Roch Gia, less than 4 hours from Ho Chi Minh City (85,000 dong), about 6 hours from Ca Mau and about 1.5 hours from Long Xuyen.

By Bus

Can Tho bus station is only 1km outside the town centre yet we arrived from Chau Doc (3 hours for $5 via Long Xuyen) on a bus with no other passengers that went to another bus station some 6km from the centre. From here we took a Xe Loi (motorbike with trailor) back to the town centre.
