By Air

The nearest major international airport is Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta Airport.(IATA: CGK) There are direct Damri buses from there to Bogor Rp 35,000.If you charter a helicopter from Soekarno Hatta airport, you can request in advance for permission to land at Atang Senjaya airport, Bogor.This airport is a military base, but it may be used for civilian flights in the future.

By Train

Eksekutif-class trains called Pakuan Express depart Jakarta's Kota station line 11 or 12, with a stop in Gambir, Djuanda and Gondandia station roughly hourly (Rp 11,000).During 10 days before and after Idul Fitri the Pakuan wont stop at Gambir station.Make sure to check the schedule at the station.Ekonomi-class trains depart Jakarta's Kota station every 20 min or so, but can be crowded beyond belief and it does not stop in Gambir.Nor do some of the Pakuan trains.If returning to Jakarta from Bogor, check the schedule near the ticket booth to make sure the train you want to take stops at Gambir (GMR).Another class is Economi-AC.You only pay for Rp 5,500 per trip from Jakarta.This train class is cheaper and more comfortable but can be very crowded.

By Bus

Buses goes to Bogor from Jakarta, Bandung, Sukabumi, Yogyakarta and even further cities like Malang.Buses from Jakarta depart from Lebak Bulus, Kampung Rambutan and Kali Deres bus terminal and take about 1-2 hr depending upon the traffic. There are two types of buses available Executive (air conditioned) and Economy.Buses from Bogor to Bandung take about 3 hours. Executive buses use the Cipularang highway route while the Economy buses are still using the old route via Puncak pass, during weekends they may take a loop through Sukabumi, adding an extra 1 hr).

By Car

The easiest way to get to Bogor is to hire a car and a driver; this is relatively cheap; the journey time is about 1 hour.There is more than one road to Bogor, and the minor roads are often the most interesting.By toll highway, Bogor is about 40 min from Jakarta.During traffic jam (rush hours), it will take 80-120 min. Many commuters stay in Bogor and work in Jakarta.On weekend and holidays, the trip from Jakarta to Bogor may take up to 3 hr.

By Taxi

You can take metered taxi to Bogor from Jakarta.The cost will be approx. US$15-30 plus toll road fees of approx. US$2.The trip may take up to 3 hr depending on the traffic.Be cautious during the rainy season (Nov - Mar) because the route to Bogor is subject to flash flooding.It's better to use bigger companies like the Blue Bird Group because with the biggest fleet between Jakarta and Bogor they are the most reliable.

Bogor Botanical Gardens

Are located 60 km south of the capital of Jakarta in Bogor, Indonesia.The botanical gardens are situated in the city center of Bogor and adjoin the Istana Bogor (Presidential Palace).The gardens cover more than 80 hectares and was built by Java's Dutch Governor-General Gustaaf Willem, Baron van Imhoff who was governor of Java at the time.Today the garden contains more than 15,000 species of trees and plants located among streams and lotus ponds.There are 400 types of exceptional palms to be found along the extensive lawns and avenues, helping the gardens create a refuge for more than 50 different varieties of birds and for groups of bats roosting high in the trees. The bats can be easily detected by the noise they make while competing for space under the canopies.The orchid houses contain some 3000 varieties. In 1862, the Cibodas Botanical Gardens were founded as an extension of the Bogor garden at Cibodas, approximately 45 kilometers to the southeast of Bogor.

Russian Academy of Sciences

Consists of the national academy of Russia and a network of scientific research institutes from across the Russian Federation as well as auxiliary scientific and social units like libraries, publishers and hospitals.Headquartered in Moscow, the Academy is incorporated as a civil, self-governed, non-commercial organization chartered by the Government of Russia. It combines members of RAS and scientists employed by institutions.There are three types of membership in the RAS: full members (academicians), corresponding members and foreign members. Academicians and corresponding members must be citizens of the Russian Federation when elected; however, some academicians and corresponding members had been elected before the collapse of the USSR and now are citizens of other countries.Members of RAS are elected based on their scientific contributions and election to membership is considered very prestigious.As of 2005-2007 there are just under 500 full members of the academy and a similar number of corresponding members.

Presidential Palace

In the northwest corners of the Botanical Gardens.Originally the summer residence of the Governor-General of Java, now one of the Indonesian president's summer escapes and noted for the 250 tame deer grazing in its grounds.The palace grounds can be visited from within the Gardens, but tours in the palace require 5 days advance notification however, the Bogor TIC may be able to squeeze you in at short notice if there's a tour going on.

Kebun Raya Cibodas

Is a 125-hectares botanical garden, located approximately 1,300-1,425 meters up on the slopes of Mount Gede, 23 kilometers to the northwest of Cianjur in the Cibodas subdistrict of West Java, Indonesia or around 100 kilometers from Jakarta.It was founded in 1862 by the Dutch botanist Johannes Elias Teysjmann as an extension of the Bogor Botanical Gardens, and is the first location that Cinchona trees were grown in Indonesia for quinine production, but a few years later some of the plants had to be transferred to another more suitable place.At last introducing of exotic plants to Indonesia continued such as Eucalyptus from Australia, Conifer from Europe and others, so we may see the world in Cibodas Botanical Garden.The gardens have a collection of almost 6,000 specimens, representing over 1,200 species, and a glasshouse collection of over 4,000 specimens,including 350 species of cacti and succulents and 360 species of orchids.
