Church of Our Lady

The Our Lady of Aarschot is a church building erected in brown iron sandstone.The church is an excellent example of Demer gothic, a regional variant of the high-Brabant Gothic.The structure comprises a west tower with spire Renaissance (84 or 85 m), flanked by two chapels, a tripodal ship (early 15th century), a transept and a choir with two zijkoren (14th century).In the lower part of the tower are alternately limestone and sandstone layers applied (bacon layer).The choir is hidden behind a rood screen in flamboyant style.On the porch are scenes from the Passion of Christ and the resurrection depicted.Above the porch is a 15th-century triumphal cross made.The pulpit and confessionals are manufactured and Flemish Baroque style dating from the 17th century.

Aurelianustoren

The Aurelianustoren or Orleans Tower is one of the few remnants of the old city wall around Aarschot, built in the period 1360-1365.These however throughout the centuries repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt.Located on a hill, there is the tower 40 meter above the city on the Demer out.A beautiful panorama is a reward for climbing the 52 meter high summit.In 1990 they left the tower since July 31, 1936 is protected restoration.Since then vandals ugly house was held and a new restoration is not a luxury.

Begijnhof Aarschot
